Jesus Is Mocked

27 aThen the soldiers of the governor took Jesus into bthe
I.e., the governor’s official residence
Praetorium and gathered the whole Roman
Normally 600 men (the number varied)

ecohort to Him.
28And they stripped Him and fput a red
I.e., a Roman soldier’s cloak
cloak on Him.
29 hAnd after twisting together a crown of thorns, they put it on His head, and put a
Or staff; i.e., to mimic a king’s scepter
reed in His right hand; and they knelt down before Him and mocked Him, saying, “ jHail, King of the Jews!”
30And kthey spit on Him, and took the reed and beat Him on the head. 31 lAnd after they had mocked Him, they took the cloak off Him and put His own garments back on Him, and led Him away to crucify Him.
